Around one thousand so-called economic migrants protested today on the Macedonia- Greece border near the city Gevgelija after Macedonia started refusing to admit anyone unless they have papers to prove they originate from the war regions- Afghanistan, Iraq or Syria. Most of the migrants are from Iran, Libya, Morocco, Somalia and Bangladesh. Standing behind barbed wire, they told RFE/RL reporter Mirjana Spasovska that they have been on the border for days and want Macedonia to allow them to go to the EU countries. There is also a heavy military police presence near the Greek-Macedonian border. Macedonian authorities imposed the restriction after Serbia and Croatia announced they would turn back migrants from other countries who are trying to cross from Macedonia.
